Porsche 918 Spyder

Hello and welcome to my motoring blog, which is where I make my reviews on these outstanding super cars, and today I have a real treat I will be reviewing the Porsche 918 Spyder.

My First Thoughts

Another hybrid hyper car, if this is anything like the McLaren P1 I am already impressed, the looks of the Porsche 918 Spyder is stunning, the open exhaust system at the back of the car is definitely a first for Porsche and the 918 Spyder really pulls it of.

The Price

Porsche have slapped a massive £652,849 price tag on the 918 Spyder (Standard Edition) which is a colossal price for someone to go fast and be economic while driving, their is also a upgraded version of the Porsche 918 Spyder and this is called the Weissach pack spec which makes the Porsche 918 Spyder 35kg lighter through use of carbon fibre and magnesium wheels, and this is will set you back an extra £60k (£712,188) , this version however lapped the Nurburgring Under 7 minutes, which means this is the fastest production car to lap the German race track... So far, and all this beautiful British engineering and still £150k (£153,912) cheaper than the McLaren P1, great looking great power and cheaper than McLaren's super car Hybrid, this is going to be one great Rivalry.

The Details

With Porsche combining a 4.6 litre V8 engine and Two permanent magnet AC Synchronous Motors which together create a power output of a astonishing 887 HP at 8500 RPM, all this power and more economical than a Toyota Prius and its emissions are so low it will be exempt from the London congestion charge.

The Porsche 918 Spyder Technical Data Includes
  • Maximum Torque of 944 lb-ft (Utilizing 7th Gear)
  • 9150 maximum RPM
  • Liquid cooled High performance Lithium-Ion Hybrid battery
  • Top Speed 214 MPH (on the Nuburgring)
  • 0-60 mph 2.5 seconds
  • 0-124 mph 7.3 seconds
Porsche are one of the car that I have always dreamed of owning and the 918 Spyder have just made me even prouder to be British, and exception piece of kit from a brilliant manufacturer Kudos.

Extra Fact

The 918 Spyder can use both electric motors for braking and, as a result it is able to recover energy for the hybrid battery (recuperation)

Conclusion

I believe that Porsche have created not just a new super car but a work of art, a stupendous piece of machinery which will entice more manufacturers to use their knowledge and create more and more new hybrid super cars, McLaren and Porsche may have been the first to do this properly but I am certain they wont be the last.
